The White Buck, Burley Review

Is The White Buck a pub? Truth be told, probably not. Maybe my quick Google of “pubs burley” & simply going to what came up wasn’t enough research. The White Buck is a Fullers, though, & has an authentic “New Forest Inn” vibe complete with a drinking & dining area, so we’ll give it a pass.

Based on location & initial appearances The White Buck is the perfect pub, but us cunts have to make a definitive judgement. Unfortunately Jake is still recovering from his injuries when visiting the dreaded Compass Inn, & will likely still be recovering for another couple of weeks as a head injury that previously looked fine has worsened. Our thoughts are with his family.

1) How was the booze selection? 🥃

George says: “They have Peroni.”

Neil says: “A very good, wide range of everything including local ale.”

Chef: “Asahi on tap” [Chef kisses hand to show approval]

Editors note: The only downside of their drinks menu was that it was table service only, which does limit your freedom of choice unless you’re happy to visit the bar quickly for each order.

2) How good were the chips? 🍟

Chef says: “I like them!”

George says: “I wasn’t overly impressed, as standard as standard pub chips can be. Not sure what the other two were eating.”

3) Cleanliness of the glasses 🍷

Chef says: “I still don’t care.” Thanks, Chef. This is why we still miss Jake.

4) How good are the toilets? 💩

Neil says: “Would toilet again. Look at the floor! The flooring was very nice, very clean, love the marble aesthetic, love the taps! Anybody else want to look?” [Chef takes up the offer, following a questionably high score]

Chef says: “I didn’t like the lack of hand dryer. I want a mirror ahead of me, not to the left.”

Editors note: Their hands smelt fantastic.

5) How were the staff?👩‍🍳

George says: “Staff were polite & funny, but could work on their attentiveness if we’re unable to order at the bar.”

Neil says: “Not fit.”

6) How was the venue? 🏚

Neil says: “Cool vibes. Lots of hunting decoration. If someone asked for a recommendation of a pub in the New Forest I’d probably say here simply because it aesthetically reflects what you’d want a New Forest pub to be.”

George says: “A beautiful pub/hotel. Excellent interior.”

7) Overall score 🍻

Neil says: “I very much like the stately aesthetic. I appreciate the seasonal changes. I just really like it. It’s really grand. I feel like I’m holiday.”

Chef says: “If I came here for a 3 course meal I’d be stuck. That being said it’s a really nice place which I’ll come again.”

George says: “A beautiful venue with a great drink selection – I’ll definitely come here again for food with my girlfriend. That being said, some improvements can be made with service. Also the brownie was literally only two mouthfuls, & not dense ones at that.”
